Uhlan is considered one of the biggest phenomenons in harness racing through history, if not THE biggest. He set a world record in 1:58 in 1912, which held for 11 years. He was like an American hero, lived in a palace of a barn, had his own train and travelled all arount the US for exhibition races. He trotted 2:00 (14,6) in a four wheeler, and raced under saddle in several different distances, always in front of big crowds. He also toured Europe and raced in Germany and the Soviet Union. Uhlan was a gelding, so when he retired he enjoyed his last few years in California where he died at 31 years of age. Uhlan was owned by a very famous amateur, CKG Billings, and his Billings amateur driving championships is still being driven in the USA today.
